Preparing to enlarge the euro-zone
All the ten new EU Member States wish to join the euro-zone between 2007 and 2010, according to the Commission's first report on the state of practical preparations for the euro. He frontrunners are Cyprus, Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia. Three countries have already joined the EU's Exchange Rate Mechanism and more have launched a selection procedure for the design of the national side of the euro coin. However, most of the citizens in these countries are not aware that their country is obliged to adopt the euro, and a majority of those that do know are unhappy about it. |
